The 155 hp LS and LT do not offer much when it comes to performance. According to Kelley Blue Book, the exhausts are somewhat loud and sound unrefined under acceleration. The SS, nevertheless, offers exemplary performance. The turbocharged 2.2 is similar to the one found in the Pontiac Solstice GXP. It takes just 5.7 seconds to hit the 60 mph mark. Other features include stability control, sports body kit, side airbags, and Brembo front brakes. Optional sports pedals and a slip front differential are also available.

Buyers have two transmissions to choose from for the LS and LT models: a 4-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual. The SS comes exclusively with a manual transmission. The 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt has an EPA estimate of 25 mpg in cities and 37 mpg on highways. At 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, the SS’ fuel economy is also desirable. Reviewers have, however, cited a lack of feedback from the electric power steering system.

The 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt comes as either a 4-door sedan or 2-door coupe for the LS, LT, and high-performance SS models. The last one is the most stylish in the lineup. It features slightly lowered riding height, vivid colors, a unique rear and front fascia, increased track, a standard rear wing, and unique rocker molding. There’s a Sport Appearance Package ($795) that adds fog lights, a rear spoiler, chrome exhaust tip, body cladding, and polished alloy wheels. The LS and LT trims feature generic and character-free exterior styling.

Designers at General Motors went for a one-size-fits-all look for the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. The styling isn’t all that impressive once you’re behind the wheel. It’s functional, but barely cutting-edge. Some of the gauges are too small and too far from the driver’s seat. The basic character, however, has been described as attractive by Kelley Blue Book. All in all, the Chevrolet Cobalt is lackluster that falls behind when compared to competing models.
